In each sermon he demonstrates both his rigorous knowledge of contemporary environmental and scientific issues and his profound understanding of Christian theology.

Gerald MacCarthy describes the life of a man whose episcopacy spanned four decades of enormous change in Mexico, both within and outside of the Church.
